Vineyards have a natural flow, a manner in which they thrive. The glorious fruits of their labor, the grapes, represent an abundance of life. As I take this journey into the vineyards, through the many seasons that affect its productivity, I am made aware of its changeable nature. Though initially taken by the lusciousness of color at Harvest, I am finding that the variability of the vinyard's complexion thoughout the year affords me limitless possibilities as a painter.

"Beltane Ranch/Chardonnay Vineyards" Sonoma, CA
24"x24" o/c 2004
The first series of oil paintings recreate that initial meeting I had with Dave Homewood's Mt. Veeder vineyards in the Fall of 2002. The warmth that I experienced there, trough the colors and tastes, were the inspiration for me to explore a new direction in my work.
What began as a desire to re-present the grapes in various vineyards has now progressed to an almost still-life representation of just the grapes and leaves at Harvest. This direction is now allowing me to use more of a design approach to the subject, which is a bit of a break from traditional landscape painting.
